Home Remedies For Dandruff

Home Remedies For Dandruff: Natural Dandruff Remedies & Itchy Dry Scalp Home Remedies.

Your favorite color of clothing might be black but it can be your worst enemy if you have dandruff. You’re constantly scratching your itchy scalp and flakes are falling everywhere.

What to do?

You've tried hair washing with dandruff shampoos and perhaps a dry scalp treatment or two, but nothing seems to help. Virtually all regular shampoos and conditioners contain harmful chemicals that can create skin irritation. You want a natural cure for dandruff.

What causes dandruff? It's known as seborrheic dermatitis (flaky scalp) and is considered a scalp disorder. There are many theories such as dry or oily skin, stress, or an overgrowth of bacteria and fungus on the scalp. And some even suggest partial dehydration. Seborrheic dermatitis treatment can be confusing.

Being this is a natural remedy site, we'll start from there. I'm of the opinion that it's a yeast-like fungus known as Malassezia. Talking with herbalists and doctors have formed this opinion. This fungus feeds on oils in your hair follicles and could be the true cause of dandruff.

This fungus is part of a healthy scalp but it can get out of control. The fungus causes the scalp to get irritated. Your body's natural defenses start and it sheds its skin cells on your scalp at a faster rate. It's these cells that result in dandruff.

Good Home Remedies For Dandruff

Organic Coconut Oil is a good dandruff home remedy. Dandruff does not like coconut oil due to its antifungal properties.

Simply take a tablespoon of coconut oil and massage it into your scalp for a few minutes. Allow to sit overnight then wash it out in the morning. Do this a couple times a week and you'll start to see a difference. Very easy dandruff remedy.

Apple Cider Vinegar is one of my favorites because it has so many positive applications.

It's a natural hair clarifier and cleans pores and hair follicles. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, two tablespoons of water and a few drops of tea tree oil, and massage into your scalp.

Allow it to sit for a few minutes then rinse your hair. Do this a couple times per week.

Baking soda is not only great for raising the TA level of your pool (yeah, I'm a pool guy), it also helps remove dead skin cells from your scalp.

Baking soda is high in alkalinity and pH and can help balance your scalp's pH levels and reduce fungus growth. Wet your hair and rub 1/3 cup of baking soda into your scalp, allow to sit for a few minutes then rinse with warm water.

Do this a couple times per week. Easy home remedy for dandruff.

Other Dandruff Treatments

Dandruff is a dry-skin condition that also might be attributed to a fatty acid imbalance and is mainly a lack of healthy omega-3. These fatty acids can be found in flaxseed oil, walnut oil, and fish. You can try to supplement your diet with quality omega-3 such as krill oil or fish oil.

  • Limit the use of hair dryers, curling irons, and straighteners.
  • Try to buy and use organic personal-care products that do not contain parabens and sodium laureth, or lauryl sulfate that may contribute to eye and skin irritation.
  • Look for products that contain natural antimicrobial and antifungal ingredients, such as grapefruit seed extract, or antioxidant vitamins (A, C and E) that act as natural preservatives.

How to treat dandruff can be easy when you have good information. Always remember if you exhibit drandruff symptoms that cannot be taken care of through natural remedies, it's best to talk to your doctor or allergist. The doctor or allergist can perform a series of tests to determine the root cause of the problem and treat it accordingly. Dandruff is not life-threatening so you can simply use home remedies for dandruff from the start.
