Ways to Deal with Acne Naturally
by Jon Reyes
Just when you thought the trials and tribulations of your teen years are behind you, acne rears its ugly head. We can suffer from acne at any age for a variety of reasons. Sometimes hormones go wonky, sometimes our diet and lifestyle plays a part.
If you use heavy creams or makeup that block pores this can be detrimental to your skin condition as well. If you’re looking for solutions but want to see if you can help fix the problem using natural methods, keep reading for some great tips.
First of all, clean skin is the base of clear skin. You don’t need to use an abrasive or to shower more often, but the type of shower and soap you’re using may have an effect.
Installing a steam shower head might be one of the best ways to open your pores and allow them to release some of the build up you’re experiencing as acne. Use warm water and let it run over your face or other parts of your body where acne appears, and always use as natural a soap as possible to avoid causing problems with sensitivity. Let the steam work its magic.
If you love lotion, look for a product with natural ingredients and use a light moisturizer aimed at helping with acne prone skin.
You can also see how your skin benefits and reacts from using natural oils instead, like avocado (best used overnight as it is on the heavy side) or coconut oil.
Always remove makeup and lotions at the end of your day (a steam shower in the evening is a wonderful way not only to remove build up but to de-stress as well).
Stop touching your face! This might seem simple, but the oils on our fingers and hands (along with the bacteria we pick up from...everywhere!) gets transferred to our faces more frequently than you’d think.
Once you start being more aware you’ll probably be surprised at how often you touch your face during the course of your day!
Eat well and drink enough water. Again, this might seem very basic but that old adage “you are what you eat” holds true to form. Drinking enough water alone helps our skin retain natural moisture and fend off skin problems.
Eating the right foods can also show up on our faces, as our bodies reflect the quality of food we eat.
Get enough exercise. Exercise obviously provides a whole wealth of benefits, but one is your skin condition, which is helped a great deal by the improved circulation you gain when you increase your heart rate daily.
If you’re already exercising regularly, make sure that you’re showering or at least rinsing sweat off as soon after a workout as possible, to avoid clogged pores.
Acne can be an embarrassing condition but there are ways to help alleviate or even eliminate the problem. Try them all and see which ones work best for you.
